In case you’ve been living in a social media bubble, you probably know that there are individuals and groups out there who are entirely anti-social media.
These people don’t see the point or feel that social media is a waste of their time and energy. According to my philosophy of social media (social media is simply sharing life online) they’re wrong, but then again, I’ve been wrong myself.
So the question is. What do you say to people who downright -hate- social media? Or should you say anything at all?
I leave them be. I’ll explain what I get out of it and what it can offer others, but if they’re set against it then that’s their choice and I’ll respect that.
It doesn’t mean they’re right or wrong, so I wouldn’t look on their choice as either.
You know, it’s interesting. I really do not understand the hatred for social media, as a whole. You can not like certain aspects or even sites, but to hate the entire medium? It makes me wonder about the people who would say it. Perhaps it’s just too open of a life for some to have? To be truly engaged in social media, you have to have a certain amount of transparency. It’s hard to keep a certain image when you have to be more open and available.
So to answer the question, Danny is right. Explain what you get out of it, but you can’t make anyone do something they don’t want to do. Really, if they continue to hate on social media, those who love it and use it in a positive way know it’s their loss.
